39 water pumps

Hi all doing water pumps on 39 standard - is there a need to drill the bronze bush for oil flow or are the bushes porous enough to allow oil to penetrate. The originals I note are not drilled. The oil galleries are well and truly blocked.
Cheers Scotty

Scottie, No need to drill the bushes, but what I do prior to fitting them is to hold one [at a time] upright on my index finger and fill it with oil to the top. I then squeeze down on top of the bush with my thumb [hard] and force the oil through the bush. You will see it 'sweating' on the o/d of bush.
I perform this operation on all 'oilite' bushes prior to fitting 'em.
Obviously, clear the oil galleries within the pump housings before pressing in the new [primed] bushes.

Also be sure that the oil holes in the timing gear cover are clear. The pumps depend on gravity flow of oil to keep the bushings lubed.
