39 truck brake pedal return spring

I am trying to find the spring that goes from the pedal/mc pin to the frame rail for my 39 truck. I find listings for 40 on but none for 39. Will a 40 spring work?
This is for a truck not a car. Thanks

39 truck brake pedal return spring. Try to contact Third Gen Auto in Tenn. see their web site

They do not list a truck spring only a car spring like your picture.
I did email them and 2 other vendors so far no reply from 3rd.

91T-2472 and it is 5.70" long as pictured above is for the truck not the car. I believe that is what you asked for. Keep trying Third Gen Auto and Southside Obsolete in Minn. See their web site for phone numbers Yes their web sites may not list the part but they still may have one.

Many of the parts stores carry a universal clutch spring in the event you cannot find a repo or good original. They can be trimmed to fit.

There are a lot of different model numbers for 1939 "trucks" as there are different types of trucks, various lengths of frames and different engines - all having different model numbers. Assuming ActionYobbo has the 85 HP engine in his 1 Ton truck, then the correct model number is 91Y.

The 1 Ton truck fits between the commercial (pickup) and the regular truck (1 1/2 ton). All share some parts and all have unique parts so it's important to keep the model number straight when searching for parts.

The 1939 1 ton truck with the 85 HP engine is Model 91Y and with the 95 HP engine 99Y and the 60 HP engine model number is 92Y.
The 1939 regular truck with the 85 HP engine is Model 91T (134" WB), 917T (137" WB), 911T (191" WB) and with the 95 HP engine 99T (134" WB), 997T (157" WB), 991T (191" WB).

I agree with Terry,OH that the part you are looking for is 91T-2472 and it is 5.70" long. It's a one year only part and only for trucks, so it might not be easy to find. It appears the 1 Ton and Regular trucks shared this part.
I must admit that it's hard to give definitive advice without seeing your truck and making measurements, so if you find something else that fits and works, go with it.

I found a spring of the right size from early ford v8 parts. The spring needs to be 18” long to reach the hole. Anything shorter there is no anchor point. I am assuming the spring went straight forward and not off on a 20 degree angle to the bell housing or a 45 degree angle to the frame rail so the only point ahead which is 5 degrees to the left is the frame rail at 18”. There was no spring on the brakes when I got the truck and I have not been able to find a picture of the truck pedal setup so it’s a bit of looking for help and guess work. I am also not sure which way the clevis pin goes in but I assume it the way that would keep the spring the straightest angle. Thanks again for the replies

Here is a pic of my truck. It’s a combination of 99T 95hp and 99Y 95hp front is 1939 and the bed is 1940

Ok I might have ordered the wrong spring then. On my truck the frame rails are straight and the cross member is 90 degrees to the frame rail and the brakes and clutch are mounted on the front of the cross member and the master cylinder on the back of the cross member. Like in this picture ( not my truck)

I didn't see at the bottom of your posts that you are working on a 1 ton, I was thinking commercial. My mistake.

Seems like your 1 ton pickup frame is arranged like the truck frames with perpendicular cross members to the mail rails. This would lead me to the conclusion that your spring is definitely a truck type, not passenger or commercial.
How does your pedal arm connect to the other brake components? It's possible the spring doesn't attach directly to the pedal arm? Any chance of some pictures?
On my 1935 1 1/2 ton the pin in the pedal arm is one attachment point and crossmember 2 (where the pedal support bracket is mounted) is the other attachment point. This big truck uses 40-2456 and it's not a big spring. I know it's a brake rod system and not hydraulic, but 18" just seems too long a distance for a brake pedal return spring. I clipped an image of my setup just to give you an idea of an earlier truck arrangement.

All is good
It should be
Coup
Sedan
Sedan delivery
Sedan pickup (1/2 ton)
Express (3/4 and 1 ton)
Truck
But some how we ended up with the confusion of
Pickup truck (1/2 ton)
Bigger pickup truck (3/4 ton)
Even bigger pickup truck (1 ton)
Big truck (1-1/2 ton and change the wheels and it’s a 2 ton)

The same as the picture I posted above. My pedals are exactly the same and that’s the only picture I can find that shows pedals like what I have. It shows the spring attached to the pin but I can’t find a picture or diagram showing where the other end goes. I am not saying that doting is correct but it’s all I have as a reference
