39 transmission assembly

I'm re-assembling my 39 transmission and can't seem to get the main shaft installed. I'm thinking I need to remove the front bearing, heat it in a low oven and install it after the shaft is in place. Is that right? Or is there and easier way?

Anyone with recent experience here?

mr,
I see the cluster shaft is in place.....you must remove the shaft
which allows the cluster to drop to the bottom of the case. Everything
will slip together once the cluster is laying on the bottom of the case.
I will back up a bit here and suggest you take an old belt and slip it
under the cluster...this will make it easier to lift the cluster into place
and mesh it with the upper gear train. Once the cluster is lifted into mesh
then you can worry the shaft back thru the cluster.
Of course you should be using a 78 series case which has the depth
to allow the above to happen. !8 and 48 series cases usually do not have
the depth.

Thanks. I'm leaving the try until tomorrow as I'm pretty frustrated tonight with an afternoon of frustration. Funny thing is I took it apart a few weeks ago and can't remember how I did it(I'm 56)?

mr,
Keep the faith and keep us posted....feel free to hook up off
site if you wish.

Success
I pulled the cluster and everything slipped right in! Thanks. This goes in a 28 Model A roadster pickup with a fresh engine and a Mitchell OD. I've got a Riley 2 port to put on it eventually. I'll start with a Brumfield head.

Ha, I'm retired one year and have plenty of time to fool around with cars.

Yes, you did it, I use a cluster shaft cut to fit cluster, drop in place assemble then lift ( rope or belt ) up push short shaft to line up with hole in case, then use new shaft to push out short shaft. Only way to go if using loose bearings, LOL ernie n tx
