39 PU. routing stuff

Sorry, I realize I have ask some of this before, but I'm still confused (easy to confuse me I'm afraid). I've attached a photo of what I started with.

I've looked at the photos I can find on the forum - may have missed the right ones....

First, ebrake cable. Some photos show it clamped to the bell housing; one shows it clamped to the clam shell. Maybe it should be both places?

Second, does the back end of the ebrake cable clip into somthin'? Seems to have "slots" like the brake fittings and the handle end.

Third - I think the speedo cable goes in the left most firewall hole. Kube has explained I'm missing a rubber sheath.

Fourth - wiring. Looks like the wires to the rear harness do not enter the cab - they just go straight down then under the floor board, as do the dimmer wires? I have a few that need to go to the dash harness. How do they enter the cab?

I've appropriated a drawing or two from the forum.

Thanks,

Gordon

Thanks Tinker.

Some of them were not supposed to pertain to ebrake. Sorry my questions were not clear.

Guess i need to at ask your brake setup.

There is a special retainer off the clam. Just a note.

picture #3 There is a missing bracket that fits between the radius rods and the boss with the bolt hole and has a hole for the e-brake cable and a spring type retainer.

I can't say if it is correct but both my e-brake cable and speedo cable came out the hole you identified for the speedo.

Ya for a 39 there is the typical tab that drops down off the rear bone attachment. As sk said. 38 had the clam retainer, my bad. 38 rear torque tube?

Thanks, jeese, I hope it isn't a 38. but I had several tubes and just grabbed one.
Whats the difference beside the ebrake clip at clam shell? Maybe the green book
shows the difference?

Dang, I dont want to do that all again!

Not sure what the question is on the brake setup. As far as i know its a stock 39
with stock juice brakes.

Thanks again,

Gordon

Speedo for me goes through a knotch in the toe board just north east of the gas peddle.

My 1939 PU E brake is not attached to the bell housing or the clam shell. The end goes into a hole in a bracket that is held in place by the radius rod end bolt. My speedometer cable goes through a hole in the lower firewall near the toe board and the E brake cable through a notch in the firewall/toeboard just to the right of the column. Tail lite wires attach to main harness in engine compartment just under the steering column. The main harness enters the cab through an oval hole just above the column surrounded by a large rubber grommet. Hope this helps.

I am trying to find a better picture of what you need but I'm sure there is someone here that can snap a shot.

Now on the clam shell piece. It is nothing you would need. I mucked up your thread mentioning it, which was on my 38 mechanical system. Just ignore that....

I'm sure someone has one partially done, like me.

Wonder if anyone knows:

Green bible shows 68 4684-B Coupling (drive shaft) - 6 Spline.

comm and pass '37-'41 (actually '48 for cars)

It's on page 137. Sound like that's screwy (or I am) if '38-'39 are different from each other...

Snow melting; I'll have to see what I have out there!

Thanks, Gordon

Oops, it was just me. MAc's catalog shows that as the coupler in front of rear end only - FOR drive shaft, not drive shaft.

The book does show 68-4504 for Pass and Comm '37 to '41. Page 131. Am I looking at this wrong?

Thanks as always

Gordon

38/39 torque tubes are the same other then the bracket in above drawing #2270 as mentioned by others. That bolts in were the arms bolt to the torque tube.

Great. That helps a lot. I think I may have seen one of those around here. I went and looked at a neighbor's two 39 trucks and could see nothing there. I'll make one if I need to!

I see the item on page 45 of the Green Bible, but didn't find a drawing.

Appreciate all the time you've spent helping me!

Gordon

Bingo!

Looks like it was pretty well wallowed out and broken, and I fixed it years ago. Sometimes I would take a little piece and work on when I didn't want to start a big project.

Thanks,

Gordon
