Just wondering why my 39 PU # starts with BBxxxxxx

It definately/was is a 1/2 ton PU.

About time to start arguing with Colorado DMV......

Thanks, Gordon

Hmmm...does it have a four speed?? I believe that most or all early V-8's, don't know end of that period, got BB numbers stamped on the bell if four speed. Special U-joint hardware and stuff was available through the early Ford V8 and Model A years to make the 4 speed compatible with the passenger/commercial chassis.

And a PS...the 18-##### part of your serial is of course perfectly normal and should prove to be in the sequence appropriate for 1939 85HP vehicles. The BB part if I am correct only marks it as a vehicle assembled with a 4-speed. Sounds like you are already within the DMV system, but a drop of paint would "normalize" the number.
You can point out that your number is unique either way...only one engine/trans unit was ever built with that particular 18-### number, which would have been the same without the BB if the vehicle had been built with the three speed.

Thanks all,

I think this one had no ****** at all when I got it, and there isn't one laying around here, so someone sure could've taken out a 4 speed.

Guess "BB" CAN mean PU - with a 4 speed.

Got 4 frames here, and I always seem to pick oddball parts to use!
