Scott,
On my 42 pickup cowl vent there is one of those washers with the cuts in it. On my vent where the part the knob goes on joins the link that pushes and pulls the vent open/shut, that (bottom end) of the link has a slotted adjustment this has cuts in it that bite into the cuts on the washer to hold it in adjustment. Without the cuts, it won't stay put. This has a shouldered bolt in this place too.
From the pics it looks like there is no adjustment slot on the 39? Just a fixed pivot?
The only place I think they came from on yours, assuming that your refitting the parts you took off, is at the pivot that is welded to the underside of the cowl. I don't think they belong there, mind. From memory it's just a round hole? Or is it an adjustment point? If it's a round hole, they arnt needed there. Probably just used to replace ordinary washers.
Don't be surprised to find these sort of things where there not ment to be, been many moons since these things were built.
Any help?
Martin.
