39 pick-up cowl vent hardware...

Needing a few pics of the cowl vent handle/mounting/vent assembly so I can get mine back together.

When I took mine apart a few years ago I took a few pics from underneath, but not good enough to make out were the special washers and mounting bolts should look like and of course I can't remember:eek:. Scott

Don't mean to hi jack this thread, but what are the adjustments? The only one I saw was in Step 10, the lower bolt "A" goes in a slotted hole and the upper "A" bolt is in a round hole. I adjusted the lower "A" bolt to the end of the slot and the vent still leaks when I wash the truck.

I downloaded it just to have on hand with no problem. It's a pdf file, no reason that should be an issue. Did you attempt to download it as a pdf? You should be able to open it to view and then select save as pdf.

My guess would be the new seal. If it's tight it should keep water out. But cowl vents have always been a week spot for corrosion in my opinion.

I can take a picture tomorrow for you 39port if that helps.

Bill, what your asking about "adjustments" might be my pictured cowl vent which has elongated horizontal slots for the black picture support that has the elongated vertical slots.

I can see on my vent were the old bolts were mounted so I can get them close to were they were when I took it apart.

My second picture shows those washers with the "cuts in them" that I'm not sure were they should be placed. Any more info and picture would be great. Scott

My guess is the slotted washers went against the sliding mechinism to hold lubricant. I don't have those but pretty neat.

Looks like you have more parts on yours than mine did. It shouldn't be too hard to get it to work once you start putting it together. Here's what mine had when I purchased it and its been working fine for the past 15 years. I also couldn't find a vent gasket that didn't leak so I made my own using some

I should have posted this picture when I started this thread, so here it is now. With this I can see how the bracket/vent assembly goes back, but....

It shows most of the handle assembly/cowl attachments and I failed to get a closer picture from the driver/passenger angles when I was taking it apart to reveal the hardware.

Again, thanks for any input on those washers and related hardware locations. Scott

I am the process of converting my 39 coupe to electric.
If any one needs a handle assembly, let me know and I will send it to you
just for the freight charges.
Mind is in good condition rust free.

BigJohn...are you saying your mind is in good condition and rust free? most of us here on the Barn our minds are in good condition but not rust free.

Not understanding the relationship between converting to "electric"?? and no need for a cowl vent.

I could not help it:D, be more specific there and try the swap meet section.

Are the cowl vent mechanisms generally the same. In other words, do they go together generally in the same way? Would this diagram be helpful say on a 35?
Lawson, I would say the upper dash area look similar to mine, looking @38bills and what Tinker had posted on his pictures have a two hole flat flange support @ the firewall.

If you look @ the pre-restoration pick I posted It's just a one hole post and a very different mechanism. Those pictured slotted washers are what I would like to know about. Scott

I am not 100% but believe the special washers with grooves (cuts) are for the hex head hinge bolts with the additional collar which you show in in the same photo. The bolt head is outside the hinge, the special washer, lock washer and nut ( hex, check type, thin) are inside the hinge. I believe the grooves face the inside the hinge and not the lock washer.
Can you supply the dimensions of the hinge bolts???? Hex head size & thickness, collar diameter and length, thread and length? This would help others.

I will get you those dimensions and I think you may be right as I was looking @ the bracket and could make out those markings on the inside of that hinge.

There are a few new 39 guys on here and hoping they could provide some info on the differences from 38 to 39. Scott

I know that mine didn't have those potato chip washers any where on a untouched vent system. Very Early 38 pu, 37 block, Cg carb.

Sorry for the delay, Scott.

Had a little trouble transferring photos from the phone to the album. Turns out they were too large out of the phone.

Anyway...here are mine:
