'39 parking brake cable routing?

When the cable leaves the parking brake handle, does it go through the firewall hole that is at the lower left of firewall (as seen from inside). Some have said it goes through the floorboards. Which is correct? I also need to know what it follows after it exits the inside of the cab. I have read that the small bracket that wraps around the cable is to attach it to the transmission, but I don't see any holes for a bolt in the ****** other than the ones that go to the engine bellhousing. Beyond the ******, I believe it goes through the center of the X member (hole closest to driver's side) and exits the single rear hole in that crossmember.

39 goes through the floor board very near the column tube.
The picture I have attached herein should depict fairly well the routing inside the passenger compartment.
You are 100% correct about the routing through the X member.

The attached photo is a '38 frame and you should be able to plainly see the park brake cable attached to the torque tube universal joint housing. Its a special bracket that has the cable fixture at the top and the bottom is a threaded bolt.

1938 is very different than 1939.

Agreed, but not as different as a 35 or 36 :D
Just thought it might be helpful.
My '36 didn't have the parking brake with it anymore and I am using the 38 as a replacement. Didn't know if he was trying something similar.

Thank you for your replies. I took this car apart in '73 and I don't remember much about it. Kube, that is a very helpful picture. It appears that the P-Brake cable doesn't exit the firewall into the engine compartment. Starting at the P-Brake handle, does it go between the insulation panel and the firewall and then exit the panel where the panel and floorboard come together (see red circle on your picture), just before it goes down through the floorboard? I see where the bracket connects the cable conduit to the ******/bellhousing. Do you know where the rubber grommet (#91a-2273) goes? Is it for the driver-side hole in the center of the x-member that the cable first goes into?

It's a little hard to tell - is that an electrical harness going through the firewall where I marked the blue circle? Do you know where that harness starts and where it goes?

Here's a few more photos that may help.
The parking cable does not exist the passenger compartment through the cowl. The rubber grommet goes in the hole (forward "face" of the X member) on the left.
That thing you feel appears as a wire harness is actually the speedometer cable. The round flat washer just above the lower end of the cowl insulator is intended to keep that in place.
I probably have more pictures if you desire.

Thank you Kube. These additional pictures are very helpful and I would be grateful for any pictures that help sort out the firewall details both inside the cab and in the engine compartment. I need to figure out what order things go back on the firewall and the insulation panel going on at the wrong time will screw things up. Especially if I use those steel barbed buttons to attach it. They don't look like they would be easily removed once installed. I'm thinking of using the cheaper plastic buttons first.

Did you use the steel buttons, and did you find you had to crimp them to get them through the firewall holes? I realize they are designed to compress when they're installed but they still seem too wide. I got them from Drake.

Kube, did you use any sound deadening product on the left and right insides of the cowl when you rebuilt? Did Ford factory apply that material in production? I have the remains of some material (tar-like and sprayed on) on the inside of my cowl and it looks similar to what is in picture #1.

Do you recommend using any of the sound deadening mat that is being sold now?

Please let me know exactly what pictures (details) you desire. I really don't want to start posting a bunch of perhaps unnecessary photos. If I can help, I most certainly will.
The authentic buttons were not barbed. Rather they were split. Fairly easy to install and remove. Picture attached of an authentic button.
The only things beneath the cowl insulator are the speedometer and brake cables.

That sound deadening material you see was factory applied.
In areas that will not be seen once the car is assembled I install sheet material. The roof, quarter panels, doors, etc.

Can't thank you enough. I think Mac's has the smooth buttons. I'm going to install the hand brake assembly and move on from there. I appreciate your offer for more pictures and will be specific when I hit a speed bump. Nice work on your restoration. Looks good!

Wilys- I find myself in a similiar situation, I've got a 39 Tudor, trying to get moving on as I've walked several projects around it... Where are you located? I'm just north of SF, Ca...

Kube, from where the brake cable is attached to the bellhousing, are you running it above the rear engine support bracket (between it and the driveshaft) or between the engine support bracket and the radius rods?

Sorry but all I have is this crusty picture. Still, it'll depict the factory setting of the cable in the area of your concern.

Your picture is very helpful. Looks like the fuel line was already off the chassis in this picture. Do you know the routing after the point where it comes away from the left hand chassis rail?

Another thread?
