39 Ford wiper conversion

I would like to know about vendors and experiences with conversions from vacuum to electric on a 39 Deluxe. Are all the motors the same?

AGAIN, as far as I know there is NO acceptable replacement for the 39 vacuum motor, unless you have a Convertible or Woodie, as the rest of the models have the motor above the windshield area. Please post if you find something suitable

I am using a set that I purchased from Juliano's, I don't know how correct they are per preservation specs but they fit nicely into the space. I am using a set on 12 volts. You may want to check with him to see what he has.

I have the New Port Engineering wiper in my '39 DeLuxe coupe. It's a nice, high quality part. With that said, if you are wanting to use this setup in a restored car, I'd say probably not for you. It sticks out quite a bit. My upholstery guy made a custom enclosure for it. Also, using it does not let the sunvisor go all the way forward like it should. Maybe the picture will help. Let me know if you have questions and I'll try to help. Mike

How long have you had this conversion in your 39 Ford? The reason that I mention this is that I was going to go with the New Port system, as they have just come out with bolt ins that are hidden from view and look exactly original with the header in place I was told by them last summer. I went with the remote motor for my wipers, but if I would have kept my wipers in the stock location, I would have gone with New Port Engineering's system. You have to be very careful with the replacement wipers as many have very good advertising campaigns, but little quality. Big Al's or something like that comes to mind.

I used the English BMC wiper motor & wheelhouses etc. on all my American Rods & they work great, but if you want them to self park its best to use the lucas 2 speed switch. Ive just fitted them on my 35 Ford truck & they work perfect, Ive reversed the wheel houses so they work in clap hand mode. Like Cvstl say`s go to this site lots of good info ....http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=325421
..........

Here`s some pics of the bracket I made for the motor & you can see thru the glovebox how easy it is to fit. Punch in "STAFFORD VEHICLE COMPONENTS LTD" on Google this company sells all new kits for the kit car boys & you will be able to see all the parts needed on this site. The kit is £147 + Postage Hope this helps you guy`s ..........

I've had the New Port system for about 3 years now. I do find it to be pretty big but it works great. As I said, my car is a hot rod so I just had the upholstery guy make a custom cover for the motor. I wasn't aware that New Port had redesigned their wiper setup. Too late for me now, though. :( I'll check the new ones out too.

I am using the old vac operated wiper motor on my 39 deluxe, and have lost one of the screws that hold wiper motor in place... With the many who are replacing their system, I would buy one of the screws from them, and be grateful... Karl

I'd be happy to give you the ones that I took out. The problem is, it's been so long now, I don't remember what they looked like. Give me some dimensions and thread size and I'll look through the old coffee can that has the leftover hardware. Mike
