39 ford radius ball cap?

I bought this part off Ebay. He said it fit 39-40 ford, front radius rod ball cap. I was going to use it to replace my used one and use the used one to repair the top portion. My question is; the old one is about 1/8 inch thick and this one is about a half inch thick..(where the bolts go through) Part number 99A-3440 Could it be for a big truck or something?

I think you have the "rare" Merc cap. It is designed for a larger diameter ball.

It fits mercury.99a prefix designates 39 mercury.

Gary, I had to rebuild my support for the front and got my covers from C&G pg 53. My front radius ball support was completly rotted. Rust and farm dirt held that together!

Hi...I believe I have some of them at home in the parts bin that are the thinner type you are seeking. I may have one of the rubber balls that goes on teh end also. I am out of town right now...I will be home Sunday evening. I can get back with you Monday morning if you are interested. Shipping one of those will be less of an adventure than sending the rear fenders was.
