I too struggle with visibility but this is what I have done so far. I added passenger side mirror, took the small round heads off and put on a pair of rectangular heads from a 63 unicab. I am used to driving without a rear view mirror on the large trucks I drive so driving the panel was not much of a problem.
I have changed all of my 6v lamps on the rear to higher candle power output, painted the insides of the housings white and added 2 brake/turn signal light bars, one in each window in hopes that people will have a better chance of seeing me when I turn or stop. (these have suction cups holding them to the windows).
My panel has 2 taillights, one on each door. This option along with a rear view mirror were options but rare. I am still hunting the mirror, (this is different than the pickup versions).
