39 ford engine

I just picked up a 1939 ford 2dr sedan how can I tell if its a 91a with 85 hp or a 922a with 60 hp, heads have 24 studs, and the letter A cast in center of both heads thanks

24 studs is the 85, the 60 has something like 16, and you would know when driving, the 85 will pull from low rpms, the 60 needs to be wound out to get anywhere

17 stud is 60HP the 24 stud is 85 or 95HP. The heads with the A cast in the middle, there are a couple of slightly different versions but the 39 does use this style head. Below KiWinUS is correct on the stud count.

21 stud is not 60hp
17 stud is 60hp
21 stud is 85
24 stud is 85 or 100 ( not including 49-53 merc)
