My gauge looks great but is frozen solid. Bob's Speedometer Repair wants $600 to repair. That seems very costly. Any suggestions on where to buy a good used unit or who else might repair it at a lower cost would be appreciated. Thanks. Jon L.
You might be able to free it up by removing the speedo and then removing the very small lube cap and adding a few drops of light oil. Let it soak in and then use a small screw driver in the input to get it to start to turn again. After some time and lube they often can be made to turn with the speedometer cable and will continue to work. Can also lube where the shaft enters the speedometer body. Worth a try.
600 frog skins for a restoration with new silk screening & finish isn't way out there. Especially if it needs new parts to any extent. For just a clean & lube, it's way out there.
The average servicing/rebuild runs around $150-200. If your speedometer requires additional parts, etc. you'll have more into it. Cosmetic restoration is very time consuming and is thus expensive. It sounds like you'd be better off with a known good replacement. www.morrisgauge.com
