39 Ford deluxe headlights

Please satisfy my curiosity...I always thought that the 39 Deluxe had the thin teardrop headlight trim like the 37-38, but I've also seen them with the 40 Ford style headlight trim. Was a mid year change thing?
 
I've seen accessory catalogues from the early days offering the sealed beam update and 40 style headlight bezels and rings. My 39 Deluxe has had them since before my dad owned it.

Stock 1939 Deluxe had a thin stainless rim similar to 1937-38 except a bit wider overall and the bottom had a bit less point. The reflector and bulbs were the same. The outside footprint of the 1939 Deluxe is almost exactly the same as 1940 so it is an easy (a couple trims on the mounting flange) modification to use the 1940 headlight assembly on the 1939 Deluxe (or the 1939 Deluxe on a 1940). There were also a number of period aftermarket conversions made, especially for the 1937-38 (39 Std).
