Just wondering how much a rust free original 39 deluxe grille with all the chrome(pit free), stainless(dent free) and the 2 side panels is worth? I know its hard to put a number on some things but i have no idea what they are worth, I have one that someone wants to buy one and I dont know what to tell him? The last one i saw on evilbay was just the shell with no trim or sides and it went for 875.00 did he get lucky? Ive also heard that the repo ones are chinese junk and dont fit good at all. Im not looking to get rich I just want to be fair thanks

I am not sure what you mean by "sides" but I paid close to that for a really nice '39 deluxe grill that had perfect trim and was painted in black imron.It fit like a NOS grille. I have seen and bought them for 150.00 that need some work and seen them for 1200+ that are mint. When you need one you can't find one, so when you find one you get it for a spare. I say if you don't need it and he wants it- let it go to someone who can use it.

Does your grille have the upper cross brace and the round support rods that angle down from the center of the cross brace to the sides of the grille? There is an early and late style grille cross brace. The early style has two fixed hooks on the sides with the corresponding locking mechanism in the hood cross brace. The late style grille cross brace has no hooks, but the hood cross brace has a single rotating hook in the middle which latches on the back side of the grille cross brace. I believe that there is also an early and late style safety latch that bolts in at the top of the grille. Therefore it is a matter of knowing which style grille that you have/need to fit the hood locking mechanism being used.
As far as value, if your grille has the upper cross brace and safety latch, I would estimate it is worth at least $1,000 considering the condition of the chrome center bar and the stainless side trim. Drake's 39 Deluxe Grille Trim and Center Bar Kit with hardware retails for $450! But is often on sale for $360. As you said, no one has a good repro grille.

Steve/IL I think I See what you mean I have 2 grilles one has a round rod that goes from one side to the top piece than to the other side. and the other grill has 2 flat bent bars that are bolted to the top piece than to the sides, one on each side, that one has a safety latch the other one does not. the car was from canada ehh, thanks for the info learn something new everyday

Another detail on the early and late 39 grilles is that the stainless trim bars have a little different shape at the ends. As I remember the early ones are kind of pointed and the later ones rounded. The repros are the later rounded type. Also remember if you are assembling from gathered parts, the hood latch mechanism (early/late) has the match the grille (early/late). Who said these Fords were easy?
