I've been toying in my head the thought of getting my windshield frame chromed for my 39 Deluxe coupe. It is in very good shape so nothing should have to be done to it before the chroming process....I hope. Has anyone had one chromed, just looking for a ballpark figure before I do much more thinking about it. Thanks.

i got a price about 15 yrs. ago and it was 500.00 to plate my 39 frame. couldnt justify that at the time. painted it with silver paint, looks good at 10 feet.

Two years ago, $1200. Nice to begin with but not good enough for a restoration project. Beautiful when done.

Old chrome must be stripped. Then the frame buffed. Like paint, the finish is only as good as the preparation work. Then the plating process.
There are places that do "driver chrome" that may be cheaper.

Chemicals intrude into the inner channels of frame and MUST be properly neutralized. My 34 frame showed interior damage after plating. Some Ford parts were not meant for LONG term used- buy a new car after few yrs. Newc

I used a spray can of flat black and used a rag and rubbed it afterwards and got a slight gloss to it. Kept the two small clips and center bar chrome. I think it looks nice. That is my suggestion if you have a darker paint scheme..

I'm sure it's gone up a bit since then Kube. Thanks

My brother had some gas pump parts powder coated with Prismatic chrome powder coating and was impressed, I don't know how well it will stand up.

Durability has always been a problem with stuff like this. They require it to be clear-coated after application which may help. Given the way technology is moving along, I believe someone is going to get this right, sooner or later.

one rechromed the w/s on my 30 Cabby. I had to touch it ever trip. An aluminum frame with good glass wandered in. 60 second polishes I was on the road,

l just delivered a very nice 36 windshield frame to the platers for chrome.....was quoted $600 estimate for work....14 wk lead time for work....
A friend has previously used this vendor and was pleased with work....

I had my '39 Deluxe frame rechromed and the 2 things that need to be paid attention too is the seal area and the screw holes. I really had a hard time getting the seal in place and the screw holes all had to be tapped. It was $1500 even though his quote was $1200. overall It looks great on the car.

*chuckle* still thinking about how one might go about driving while maintaining a ten foot distance from the windshield.

T/Y all for info you have provided.
We have a new bare steel frame for our 36’ Coupe.
I have been thinking about Semi Gloss Black Powder Coat.
