anyone have any measurements for the 2 steps on the right hand fender. I need to drill them in my fender to be able to get in the rumble seat, also I see the convertible top guys list 2 different header bows above the windshield. what is the difference other than one is tapered on the end and one is straight? is there a radio delete plate for dash? does anyone make the rubber pad between the 2 triangle pieces on the irons ? thanks tim [ gtstripecar@aol.com ]

Dennis Carpenter offers (or at least did at one time) the special rubber pieces that go on the top irons.

I hope these photos of an original convertible fender help, I could not find dimensions. We do make aluminum replacement step brackets.

Ford had two different top irons in 1939, early and late. The early was basically the same as 1937-38, not sure of all changes with the late other than the rear bow was 2" narrower (likely for better clearance when folding into the top well). The header bows were the same 1937-39 rumble convertible/cabriolet but vendors will sometimes have different part numbers to avoid confusion with the 1937-38 club convertible/cabriolet which has a different bolt pattern for the top corner brackets.

The rubber bumpers in the transition blocks above the rear corner of the door window were different between the convertible sedan (smaller) and convertible/cabriolet (larger). Carpenter makes the ones for the convertible sedan and Drake makes the ones for the convertible/cabriolet. We handle both.

Thirty years ago the 2 metal stands that the round step pads were hard to find.
I remember either Drake or Carpenter placing wanted adds so they could copy
and reproduce them.Did any one every reproduce them? I had to make them
33 years ago when I restored my 39. G.M.

Here's the only picture I have of the metal step parts I made. They looked
exactly like the originals but it took a lot of time to make them.

GM: Nice job and very nice car. Well done. A friend of mine just had some custom made. 100% better with stronger bracing under the fender than the OEM set up.
