'39-'42 double adjustible rear brakes

These rear brake assemblys just don't look right. Could use some advice please. Look at the pictures and tell me what you guys see that is wrong.

First off I asked seveal months ago about the "short" shoe location being towards the rear. I was told that is the proper location. Ok.

Now that I am ready to assemble everything onto the rear end housing, I notice that the wheel clys hard line location is pointed towards the rear of the vehicle, instead of towards the front. Meaning there is going to be an extra bend to get the steel line pointed towards the front of the vehicle. Is this also correct?

Wheel cly's came from Drake, and is marked "left" and "right". Plus different ID's on the wheel cly leading shoe and the trailing shoe. Little confused here. Thanks

What you have looks correct to me. I have seen the brake lines looped around the back of the rear axle to avoid a tight bend at the wheel cylinder.

Here's a picture that was posted by @19Fordy on another thread about line routing. Makes for a sweeping curve out and down to the inside of the radius rod.

Thank you all for the correct comments!

It has been a couple of years since I took the brakes apart, and it didn't make any common sence on why everything was posisitioned they way it was when all reassembled. I wanted to make sure from "people that know" that I had it right.

You know, usually the smaller shoe is always on the front, and brake lines are usually posisitioned towards the intended direction.

Thanks again.

The reason is that these brakes do not "float" at the bottom as "Bendix" style drum brakes do. Since they don't float and therefore do not pivot/rotate at the bottom - they do not force the big rear shoe into the drum. Ford decided to put the longer shoe on the front where it does more of the work.

I've never tried putting longer shoes on BOTH sides . . . would be an interesting experiment!
