So hello fellas, in the process of getting my 39 pick up on the road I noticed that the hold down clips are all broken except one. Can these be replaced? I ask because they look like they ar e spot welded ? Should i just use a set of 42-48 that I have or what any suggestions appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You can make some z shaped clips and weld them on. Make them like one arm of a ********. I got that tip from the Dave Wilton who used to sell bendix and restored backing plates.

Jason, on my 39 I had a similar questionable condition with my rears and did not hesitate on replacing them with the M.T. complete rear Bendix style set.

M.T. are US made/great quality and ordered through Dick Spadaro who posts here on Fordbarn. Scott

Mr Texas I thank you that is the answer. After working on them again , the small clip in the first pic was just flattened. Once bent back the drivers side plate is good. Going to fabricate the ******** arm and weld it on also the spring for part king brake lever. Again thank you Mr Texas

Don't omit the shoe clips, as they prevent the shoes from gripping the drum as you pull it off, even if the adjusters are fully retracted. I have seen them so stuck that the drum had to be attacked with a cutting torch. When the junk yards were full of old parts, it didn't matter. Now that repo drums are about a hundred and a half, it pays to be careful.
