Hi Guys-
I am rebuilding the bed in my 39 1/2 ton. I sanded the wood and applied teak oil to protect it. wood looks good, but the hardware I took off is pretty damaged, so I ordered new stuff. it came in the mail today and its completely different then what i need.

What I got is
Long flat head bolts for attaching wood to frame
small carriage bolts for skid strips

What I think i need:
Long Carriage bolts for attaching wood to frame
Wood screws for skid strips

I am not sure what was supplied on the original truck. Can anyone supply pics of thier stock bed? Suggestions on hardware suppliers?

thanks in advance
Rob H

You received the correct hardware for the stock floor. The stock floor is a full sheet steel panel over the wood sub floor. The steel floor is riveted to the bed sides and bolted to the wood.

Steel is correct. Although shiny, polished wood looks good and is seen on many "restored" trucks and it does look good, it is not correct.

Hey Rob, post us some pic's of this 39. Please join the 38/39 p/u and panel social group and let us know how you make out:D. Scott

Rob, Since the wood floor is not correct you can use what ever you want to hold it together.

If you are using the wood floor with the standard skid stips you can use the kit that is used on the F-1 and F-100 pickups . They have tyhe wood bed strips ans metal skid strips. You still need to attach the bed to the frame through the wood blocks, so use the bolts supplied in the first kit.

ROBH The original floor in a 39 P/U is metal with no wood. So do what you think looks best. G.M.

As many of you know my peeeekup is an old tired 39. The bed is an old plywood sheet painted Ford green with a mop. Hard ware is some beer cans and bungies to hold more beer cars and My late Uncle's auto tool box he built in 1923. The truck is named "Uncle Raeman " in his honor. The tail gate chain loops are nearly worn thru. The truck has worked hard over the years and now is so happy to sleep inside at nite becasue he is afraid of the dark. Me too. The beeeg trouble is them womens what always is jumpin in and wanted aride. Maybe it is the plywood...

does anyone have pic's of what a stock bed floor looks like? my 38' came with wood and metal strips for the floor but metal would be nice.

Nope. Not dead yet. I thought I had a picture of the stock bed. Can't find it. I ended up using red oak and stainless strips on the truck in the avitar. 5 years ago when I did it the wood sub floor was going for $200 and the repro steel floor was $450.00. I bought the red oak at HD for around $150.00 and the stainless strip kit from Northern Truck Parts for $250.00. Pure economic decision.

thanks! mine came with the metal strips and they were never installed so i might as well use them. my truck is far from stock so wood should be fine.
