38 pickup grill brace

I was in Kansas City, MO over Thanksgiving visiting my familiy. I went to Blue Springs Monday for a Model A CLub breakfast. West bound on R40 is a tired 38 pickup. In looking it over there is an angle brance behind the grill. It is of the tube design. My 39 does not have this brace. Should it?

I posted this piece before but my piece was removed. The truck is for sale, but I can't post that as I don't know the owner or have permissison to post such. owner is at 573-345-3333. I do have photos. The rear fenders seem good. Funny the gas tank inlet hole is on the rear fender, not the side of the cab. I wonder if the bed/fenders are correct. I have photos.

My 39 has the gas cap in the right rear of cab. I thought that this was because it had originally had a stake body on it and was converted to a pickup. Shouldn't it have the tank in the rear and the fill in the rear fender for an original pickup?

So, please unstupid me. Both the 38 and 39 had fuel tanks aft under the bed? Is that right? My 39 has two tank inlet appatures: one on the left fender and one on the left side of the cab.

I don't know how to post photos: Email me and I will send you photos for posting. I hope a Fordbarner gets this truck.

The cab fuel inlet was used in the bigger Ford trucks where the fuel tank was below the cab. The left rear fender had the fill inlet for the fuel tank which was behind the diff and between the frame rails on the'39 pickup.

So Clem Are you running dual tanks ? my 39 will be the same was a 2 ton tanker with the filler on the cab and the tank under the seat (maybe that is why 39s have no ashtray and 38s do) now I will have the tank out back by the rearend where it is on a picup. it would be nice to have dual tanks but you ,ll be stopping anyway for the car guys to get gas

No. Only a tank in the back. We guess the cab came from a big truck. We know my 39 is a loose collection of parts from at least 3 vehicles. Also 8239692386598 coat hangers gave up their life to the welding torch.

this is a great site have never learn so much from u guys i am in the process or restorin a 39 pickup have a coupe of donor cabs now i know why one has the the filler pipe in the cab thanks guys

Clem.
I think the brace you are talking about is midway up behind the grill is the correct support that should be there. I never cared for tanks under the cab seats. Always smell fumes and are rather hazardous. How are you feeling? Frank pkny
