38 Ford Standard Tudor rear seat bottom

Here again I'll ask, does anyone know if there are any interchangeability between 37 - 39 Ford sedans on the REAR seats? I can find new 37 rear seat cushion/springs, but they claim that 38 was different, and 39 was different. I find this hard to believe with the way that Ford ran the company back in the 30's.

Does anyone know?

We had an early 38 Fordor which had a rear seat that was identical to a friend's 37 Fordor seat. The 38/39 restoration manual lists a seat adjustor carry over from 37. I would surmise that the 37 and 38 seats were interchangeable with the exception of the upholstery.

The 38/39 restoration manual, mostly covering the front seats, notes the following: "1939 seats were not only different in appearance, but there were differences in construction and mounting as well. The cushions were redesigned at the front for more flexibility." However differences in appearance may only be due to upholstery and cushions and not seat construction.

When looking at different spring manufacturers' spring part numbers, I find that some claim that some springs are the same while others claim a different number. Since Ford used multiple suppliers for the same seats, I would think that the production cars had both different and similar seats.

I doubt if anyone can claim to know what went on in the different Ford plants for similar Ford body styles.

Thanks for your response here. You have said, pretty much what I have thought all along. The front seat that I have came out of a late 37. At first it was thought that it was actually an early 38, but the upholstery is the 37 design.

As for the rear. Snyders claims that they are different. I know that they are in the business, but I tend to believe that the 38 Standard is either, the same, or very close to the 37, but different from the 38 DeLuxe and 39's. The 38 DeLuxe was different and the body was bigger, so it would seem appropriate that the rear seat would be wider. Who knows, but I am leaning more and more towards ordering the new 37 seat from Snyders if I can' find a good original rear seat. Thanks again.
