38 Ford Roadster?

Was there such a car? My brother told me that he owned one back in 1956. I used the car then and seem to remember it had roll up windows. Just found a picture and asked his widow if she recalled roll up windows or side curtains. She is sure the windows rolled up and down. So.. Could it still be a roadster?

There was not such a car. 1936 was the last year of a Roadster with a removable windshield, no roll up windows. 1937 also had "Roadster" though controversial because the windshield was fixed like a Cabriolet, but it did NOT have roll up windows as well. 1938 would be a Convertible Coupe or Convertible Club coupe depending on which style he had .

In addition to the above correct information, the last domestic Ford with side curtains was the 1938 Ford Phaeton.

The last U.S. produced roadster was 1937. There is a thread on the barn here that over in Australia they did make the roadster all the way up to 40 (I think).

Hello, A friend of mine has a 1940 roadster they were built here one ws also in in a garbage tip but it had had a fight with a bull dozer, not much was straight.Roger

Hi old46, We cant actually see where you are. So where exactly is "here". Maybe AUSTRALIA. Australia built Ford V8 roadsters with side curtains in 1940 at their Geelong plant in Victoria. Regards, Kevin.

Ford Australia did indeed produce a Roadster in 1938. They were available as a Standard as well as a Deluxe. The 1938 Ford Standard Roadster pictured above is believed to be the only survivor, and is in need of restoration. There are a few 1938 Deluxe Roadsters still around. Ford again offered Roadsters for 1939 and 1940, but only as Deluxe models.
