38 Ford pickup throttle linkage

I have no tension in my throttle linkage and was wondering which spring gives the linkage tension.

As you can see in the pictures one spring is on my firewall the other spring is in the carb.....do either of those supply tension?

The spring on the firewall is weak.That controls it all. BTW your fuel pump is incorrect for the yr. and its an after market one at that. Not an "AC" pump. No drain petcock and inlet an outlet are on the same level. I dont have any in stock at the present time. Its a hard to find pump.correct for late 36 to 40. ken ct.

I was thinking it might be that spring on the firewall.....I have a correct fuel pump that was on the old engine but did not have the parts or time to rebuild it so I picked up one at carquest. This aftermarket pump seems to work great though.....

These old fuel filters are very similar to the ones used on old John Deere tractors and I've rebuilt many of those.

I just took a look at the pump now I know what Ken was talking about....it is different.

I have so many parts I need to get right now I will probably get that at a later date.....

The one that was on it when I pulled the truck from the barn was a fuel pump with a glass bowl......so that must have been a wrong pump as well??

This is how it looked when I got it......I will upgrade to that AC pump soon.

I hear ya Ken....I never made a purchase on Ebay either.

Where do you buy parts when you need them?

Swap meets for cores. New parts i buy from diff. sources depends what i need. You wont find any of those pumps in any stores. I find them at the swaps sometimes.And there usually expensive as far as cores go. I had 3 of them at the NC nat and sold them all there.And got no core returns for any of them.ken ct.
