38 ford cut

Snouts out

Senior Member
One of the yahoos who replaced the clutch, took the wires off the B terminal on the cutout. Two wires black /yellow&black.I know the black/yellow goes there. What about the black?

If you look at the 38 ford wiring diagram, there is a wire from the Cut-out to the Fuse terminal which is Black. This same side of the fuse has a Yellow wire that goes through the Amp meter to the Starter Relay, a Yellow/Black wire to the Ignition Switch & a Black wire to the Cigar Lighter. The other side of the Fuse should have two wires, a Yellow/Red wire to the Lighting Switch and a Black/Blue wire to the inter lights Pillar Switch. Now good luck with reading the colors on the faded wiring!

Hooked it up,B side wires started to smoke...! Fused contacts..? I don't know? It appears I'm doomed, engine& ignition off. What do you think? Some shortage?

Snouts...Do ya at least have some type of schematic to follow? Has your wiring been modified/neglected? Gotta tell us more precisely what you're working with. Maybe the wiring below, compliments of MacVP will help? DD

Take the wire off of the coil and then reconnect the resister, should be no resistance then. If so, there is a direct grounded wire somewhere out there. Resisters will smoke sometimes when they have not been used in ages.

If your cut out is not cutting out, you may have smoke do to that with your gen trying to motor. You'll have to make sure the contact plate is releasing and opening the cut out when the engine is shut down. If there is any short to gound then you will get smoke. Make sure the internal connections between the cut out and the gen are good too.

After buying new dime store glasses, and with some help from the kid next door, we discovered the cutout was installed backwards. Went to Macvanpelts and bought a nurex reverse current cut out(see photos). I want to be sure I have the wiring right. The pic with the fingers are holding the black/yellow wire(had to wrap in electrical tape), and the black wire, which I assume goes to the amp meter? The other pic shows the black wire, coming from generator, and the white wire which I think goes on the cutout. I want to be sure, so I could use some help! Let me know if I got this right/wrong! Thanks
