38 ford 1 ton ******

I'm new to this forum. I thought I posted this question yesterday but don't see it - so here it is again.....

I have 38 1 ton with a 4 speed ******. The shift lever has what appears to be a 2 speed rear-end shifter lever, but the control goes into the transmission and not to the rear-end. I can't move the lever. Top speed is about 40 mph - so could it be that it's some sort of low range/high range? Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

It is probably a PTO--power take off ---does it go to a "lump" onthe side of the teans

probably you have the 6:66 ratio, the other is 5:17

If it looks like this it is the reverse lockout.

Reverse lockout ?

JIMI

If your shift arm has a lever just below the shift knob like the one in the attached photo, that lever is used to lift the lockout detent at the bottom of the arm which prevents the trans from being shifted into reverse accidentally.
