I thought I had found what I wanted, did you ever do that?? the wingnuts on the fenders are 26 inches apart and hood side panels slots for the wingnut bolts are 22 inches apart. Would someone please tell me what I Do have ?? I thank you in advance! jhawk

What are you working with 38 std or deluxe? If deluxe, the 38 deluxe is similar to, but different from the 39 std.

Photos are always helpful!

I thought it was a 38 standard 5 window coupe , now every time I turn around something else don't fit .You would think someone 82years old would know better but I don't, that's is why I gave the measurements hope someone can measure thiers and tell me what I DO have, thanks again for your time ! j

Google 1938 standard Ford, and then Google 1938 Deluxe ford.
The pictures of each will soon tell you what you have.
However I can tell you...
22 inches apart = 38 standard
26 inches apart = 38 deluxe and 39 standard.

So, it has deluxe fenders that you are attempting to put 38 std hood side panels on. I think your best bet is to figure out what model you have for sure and proceed from there.

The basic cowl side stampings are the same 1937, 1938, and 1939 standard. The 1938 Standard fender mounts into the same fender relief as 1937. For 1938 Deluxe Ford made the fender larger so it mounted above the fender relief mount, a hole with a caged nut added in the middle of the cowl, and the cage nuts omitted in the "fender relief" (notwithstanding Ford's practice of "use what you got").
