38/39 Pickup steering box interchage?

I'm trying to put together a 38/39 pickup from a pile of parts I have collected over the years. I am currently in need a proper steering box and column. I have the correct dash drop but need the rest.

What years will work for a 38/39 pickup? Are the cars and trucks the same for those years?

This may depend on how original you are wanting to keep the pickup. 37 through 48 Passenger and 37 through 47 Commercial used the same steering box (21A-3548-A), but there are differences in the Column and the steering shaft inside. Only the 38-39s are listed as the same and they are different between Pass and Comm. They almost all can be modified to work so depends on where you are headed.

37-39 passenger and commercial will all interchange to some degree, The steering box is the same and the steering shaft is the same length. The difference is where the column locking lug is located. These can be re-located by drilling two new 1/4" holes in the shaft.
