38-39 Pickup parts differences

Other than Hydraulic brakes and transmissions, what else was changed on these pickups between 38 and 39. Body panels and chassis changes. The pickup I bought Saturday the guy said it was a 37, so beings he had owned it for many years I took him at his word. Looks more like it is a 38 or 39 after doing some comparing. It does have Juice brakes, but those could easily have been put on later. Just trying to posotively ID it. Transmission that is in it is a 36, so those numbers do me no good. Thanks Rod

Just the hole for one. I also have another one that I will be bringing home within the next few weeks for parts, hopefully it is not missing also. The engine in the one I have pictured ran 14 or 15 years ago and is not froze up. Neither frame is any good though which will be a problem at some point. Between the 2 bodies I think a decent one could be put together, which may be a future project. Thanks Rod

Another thing that is different, is the upper dash rail. The 39 had the windshield opener, comming straight up through the top of the dash rail, and had a round knob. The opener on the 38 truck came out like on the 37.......Ed

Great. That nails it down as a 38 for sure. It comes straight out like the 37 fordor I parted out. I was happy to discover that this windshield regulator is in good working condition. Now I hope the hood, grill and pickup box from the other one fit. Radiator, ash tray and glove box door would be nice also if they are there. Rod

Do you have any pictures of the front sheet metal, or do you just have the cab and frame ?

The '38 has cardboard door panels, and the '39 has tin door panels.

The '38 has the winshield opener comming out the upper dash, facing the rear glass,
and the '39 has the winshield opener comming out the upper dash, and it faces up-ward.

The '37 4 piece hood opens from both sides and has a 2 piece top hood with center hinge.

The '38 and '39 hood top is 1 piece, but they are different from each other in the front hood latch
area on the front underneath of the top hood.

The '38 and '39 Grills look simular at first glance, but are very different from each other, as are the chrome strips on them.

I appriciate all of the help. I loaded some pic's Saturday evening of the one I already brought home. The other one I do not have pic's of, but it is a 38 for sure. I should be able to tell more abot the pars interchange when I park them side by side. Also hope on a parts run later this summer to bring home a decent frame. I think in all I counted 11 frames on that place. Roads over there have been too soft to get a trailer over so far this spring or I would have a bunch more stuff home. Pic's i upladed are in my Album http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/album.php?albumid=219 Thanks Rod

38 and 39 sheetmetal is essentially the same. The hood latch/ornaments are different. The front fenders and running boards are the same. The front inner fender panels are not the same. The 39 has "mouseholes" factory cut into them to clear the juice brake lines. The grill surround stainless is the same. The 39 has a single center stainless piece and a single center bar. The 38 has two separate stainless pieces and a V-8 emblem at the top center as well as 3 vertical bars in the center.
