I appreciate the answers to my original questio, which was about 37 standard and 39 standard steering wheels. I assumed that the stndard steering wheels were also used in the pickups, at least the standard pickups. I know the horn rods are not the same for 37 and for 39. I do not get to see many 39 pickups, but the ones I have seen locally have had black steering wheels in them. The 37 pickups I have seen have had black steering wheels in them. I have several steering wheels that I have redone. I painted all of them black. Now I am having a difficult time telling the 37 from the 39 ones if there is actually any difference. . Hopefullly someone can tell me how to do so.

Steering wheel should be same for '37-'39 Standard car and pickup, a 3 spoke design. Straight spoke wheel with 4 spokes is a big truck wheel.

O & T, I'm restoring a 39 PU. Next weekend I'm pulling my wheel from my steering shaft and redoing the steering box and POR 15ing the column and related parts. I can take a photo of my wheel for yah:D

My 39 P/U wheel was falling apart when I did a mechanical restoration. I restored a 39 banjo wheel and it really looks good in there. There is also room in the panel above the winsheild to put a small 12 volt am/fm radio, I run this with a small converter in the glove box about 3"s square that is made in Florida. The antenna is mounted on spare tire rack behind the tire. Works great. G.M.

Now that is a neat idea...I had not thought about stashing something behind the header panel. Did you do a cutout for the radio knobs/buttons?

No, I cut a clean rectangular hole about 2"X6" and the radio fits right in.I saved the cutout incase someone ever wanted it stock and also found a spare panel for a few bucks. I ran the wires up in the right windsheild post. You want as small of a radio as you can get, you also have to watch the depth. I believe the name of the people that make the 6 to 12 volt converter is Antique Auto Radio in Florida. I would really like satellite XM since I got used to that in my Duramax with a lifetime XM subscription which is good only for the radio it was purchased for but that's OK because I still have my 1978 GMC diesel P/U that I bought new in 1977 in Pa. After sitting for 8 months it started up like I turned it off yesterday as did my wifes Mercedes diesel. My 7000 Garmin GPS can receive satellite XM radio with a special antenna, I use this in all my cars as it runs on 6 volts IF YOU CHANGE THE POLARITY in the power plug. I'm going to see if I can get that working then I can listen to the 50s music in all vehicles. The satellite radio which has about 100 stations never fades in and out where ever you are as long as there are not a lot of trees, in a tunnel or in a building. Google Garmin 7000 and you can see the features. This is a few years old and I'm sure others may even be improved but this has a large screen which I like. G.M.

I have a special wheel in my 39 peeekup with extra deep finger grips so when the womens are pulling on me, I can hang on and stay focused on business(:>) Clem
