I receved another flathead from ajohn in Tyler Texas. It is powering a welding machine. I have not had time to look the engine over for markings. The right hand front has a govenor that is powered by a pully running a belt off the front of the generator. Could this be a factory built or a adapter. Added indipendent for this application. If this engine is factory for this setup.Would the cylenders be sleeved and the block relieved . Did ford build commercial engines for thease kind of jobs? Thanks Lyle.

Most Ford related governors were part of the carburetor assembly and they were more for big truck applications to limit max rpm. The pulley driven types were probably made by or contracted by the company making the motor driven appliance. Flyweight type governors can be adjusted by adding or decreasing tension to the flyweight spring so the rpm can be changed easier plus they allow for a quick increase in throttle to compensate for the rpm drop when you start to weld or pull power in the case of an electrical generator unit. Ford sold several different engines for industrial applications so it would be hard to say if it was sleeved or relieved.

I'll bet the engine is from a car, owing to the welded up belhousing. It sure runs good! You stole it from me! The other Fordbarners put me in touch with a site that is very descriptive of these engines.I've forgotten what it was.Ajohn
