37 PU with EAB - Steering box fit

Hi...I acquired a 37 1/2 ton PU with a EAB engine. Problem is the guy who did the work butchered the steering box bracket so the box does not hit the header. The bracket has now cracked. Bought a new one and there is no way the box will fit without jaming up against the header. So choices are...grind down the header and flange quite a bit? Find a different header? Any ideas or help would be apprciacted. Thanks

Steve,
I'm pretty sure my '41 1/2 ton and your truck are the same under
the skin. I've run 2 different 8ba motors and used RED's Headers on both....no
clearance issues what so ever. I have heard that Fenton cast iron headers can
sometimes have clearance problems. I like RED's !

Fentons are in fact a problem. I encountered that with an 8BA in my 40. I did not use Red's Header's although they are an excellent product. I used the Speedway headers that are designed to clear a Vega steering box. They worked good, but I did have to have the muffler shop create a different curve at the end of the header, so the exhaust pipe would pass through the frame like it should.

i`m using fenton headers in my `37 1/2 ton and they interfered with the steering box, my solution was to have .080" milled off the mounting flange of the header. fits just fine now.
