*37 Pickup Center Hood Hinge*

Is there a rod that goes through this hinge or do the ends just fit into the front and rear brackets?

Yes, there is a rod. Rod runs from edge of hood to other edge, not into brackets. There should be a rolled 'stub' on each end of the hood which fits into the bracket. These are broken off easily and could be missing on your hood. (I hope not.)

:eek: MY BAD. No center hood hinge. Two top parts slide together to form center hinge, with "stubs" to slide into brackets. Rods do go into hood sides where they join top sections. (Brain out to lunch on initial posting, hence this edit)

Lawson,
Thanks for the info. I had the hood off today and no, the "stubs" are still there. Just did not notice a rod. I did a search and could not find the rod. Does the rod come with the hinge when you buy it?

If there is not a rod what is holding the hinge together?

I'll try and get a pic tomorrow. Also, my hinge length without the "stubs" is 27 3/8". 28 5/8" total length. All the center hinges I see listed for 35-37 are total length of 29 3/4". I'm puzzled now.

The '37 truck hood hinge does not have a rod, it resembles a"Rixon" commercial door hinge. It is made of two stamped steel pieces, one revolves inside the other piece the full length of the hood.

P.s. if someone could tell me why i get the message"missing security token" when i try to post an image, i will post an image of the hinge.

Looks like one side rolls around the other?

Re: *37 Pickup Hood Center Hinge*

Thanks for the info guys. Now I'm trying to figure out why my hinge is so short. I have a 36 grille on my 37. The hinge for the 35-37 are all the same length so I don't think that is the issue. Everything looks straight and in the right position.

Re: *37 Pickup Hood Center Hinge*

I took the hood back off this morning to get a good measurement of my hood hinge. Looks like it is 28 1/2" from stub to stub. Don't know why mine is so short. Doesn't look like its been modified in any way. Could my hinge be from another year other than 1935-37?

Re: *37 Pickup Hood Center Hinge*

Would someone be so kind as to take a measurement off their 37 in the same area as the pic so I can compare to try and figure out what is out of place on my 37. Thanks.

Just took both radiator support rods off to clean them up and see if I could tilt the shell back enough for the stock hinge to fit. There is no way it will go back that far. I measured my support rods and they are 29 1/4". I looked up some replacement rods and they are 32". Now both the center hood hinge and the support rods are short. The rods do not look modified. Can you even buy shorter support rods and the center hood hinge?

Did some more research on radiator support rods and looks like most of the rods that will fit my 37 have about 3" of threads on one end so I can cut them down. Still haven't figured out why my center hood hinge is so short. I'm assuming it is a stock hinge that has been cut down to fit.
