'37 headlight switch

Is there a difference between a '37 and '38 headlight switch ?

After installing a '38 headlight switch in my '37 I can't get high beam.

Does the '38 have a floor mounted dimmer switch ?

The '37 has the high beam activated by turning the steering column switch all the way to the left.

With the '38 switch installed I can only turn the switch once to the left to activated the headlights - I can turn it no further - in order to get the high beam.

After looking in the various vender catalogues the list the '32 to 39 as the same ????

I've come to the conclusion that they're different ????

Where can I get a '37 switch ?

Thanks Rayzor

37 does not have the floor dimmer switch.
You need the 37 switch at the base of the steering column.
Try Tyree Harris.

Hi..... 39 Standard has a similar headlight switch to what you have. {38} It is located on the steering wheel. Turn it to the left and you turn on the headlights. Turn it to the right and you turn on the parking lights. When the headlights are on, there is a floor mounted switch that , when activated, switches the headlights between bright and dim. I believe that 38 is the same. I do not know about 37. However, the actual " head light switch that activates the lights is on the end of the steering column, and held on with a wire bail. Maybe you can check a catalog like Mac's or Drake's to see if parts numbers for both switches are the same. I believe that mid to late thirties Ford lights are all wired the same. Hope this helps

Hi there, 1928 to 1937 fords have headlight Bakelite switch plate with nine round brass contacts on it which switches park/tail and low and high beam headlights. 1938 -39 has Bakelite switch plate with six round brass contacts on it which switches park/tail and one headlight position and uses a floor dip switch for low/high beam headlights. You require the early switch contact plate (9 terminals) for your 1937 ford. Refer to the appropriate wiring diagrams which show these variations. Regards, Kevin
