'37 Ford gas gauge

Here's the scenario - 1937 Ford fordor - 12v conversion - gas gauge sent out and rebuilt - new gas tank sending unit - ( according to the vendor that did the repair - both units work ) wire from the the gauge to the tank - tests out good . However, after I installed both the gauge and the sending unit - tadaaaa - it won't work !!! O.K. - I installed a volt drop on the gas gauge from 6v to 12 v . Now when I apply the voltage to the voltage drop , I get 12v going to it but, I get nothing coming out of the connection to the gas gauge. By the way the voltage drop is new as well.
On this voltage drop there is a little black wire ( ? ) connected or not - the gauge still won't work . I'm getting tired of running out of gas - and getting tire of constantly filling it after short distances. Any suggestions ??

What is the brand of the volt drop unit ? How many wires does it have, 3 ? The black wire is more than likley the ground ?. Make sure the volt drop unit is wired around the correct way for the battery polarity of your 37 ford which was positive to ground originally. If its the wrong way around it just wont work, ie no output. Regards, Kevin.

Hey Kevin, Thanks for the info - I bought the voltage drop from "Mac's " so I don't know the brand. When I removed the gauge - prior to shipping to the vendor for repairs, , I noticed that somebody in the past had marked ( in pencil ) on the back of the gauge showing the positive lead. Just yesterday it occured to me that this might have come from the factory this way . And as you indicated positive ground. I'll reverse the leads and hope for success. Again Thanks Rayzor
