37 3 window coupe

Haha Dick,
Yeah I saw the quarter window on the driver's side! The only thing missing is the claim it was a "Friday car" 3 window on 1 side, 5 on the other!

As a side note, one of my best friends does lots of 55 brand X cars and converted many from a 4 door to a 2 door. All you need is a pair of 2 door doors and the garnish moldings for the quarters. Anyway, at one point he had one half done that was a 2 door on the driver's side and still a 4 door on the passenger side. I begged him to finish it that way and get a personalized plate that was "FRI CAR" but he didn't think anyone would purchase it.

Deuce Roadster

A "friend" (he also "may" have posted here on this post) who worked for FoMoCo told me back in the mid 60's that there was one made exactly that way, 4 doors on one side, two doors on the other....Must have been "mocked" once the overall design had been approved and built for final approval of one or the other, OR both!!!!

The same legend existed at Fords Halewood factory in the UK circa 1970 when a Mk1 Ford Escort was supposedly built the same way in error.

I know that it is not a Ford product, but Chevrolet / GM made 3 door Suburbans in the 1970's, the third door was on the passenger side.

I copied your picture and sent it to my friend who built this car. He positively identified it as his creation and it is absolutely a “phantom”.

I would Not call that car a "phantom"... It is just like Many that Minotti sold, but they did offer various different options for them.
Minotti has sold hundreds & hundreds of these fiberglass 1937 three window cars.

I think Minotti's are made in Austrailia now for the past number of years.

One thing that I realized, after I re-familiarized myself with the "Minotti" bodies, is that the Minottis DO NOT have the traditional "split rear windows" found on all '37-'40 Fords. They have an ugly, generic, single window in the rear like seen BELOW. Coop

To me they are as ugly as a Boyd Coddington car. I see the influence.
Dick, what are you doing up so late?

Hey Mike ....I just could not get to sleep, trying every way I know to "UN-SEE" that darned Minotti-looking body! And now, thanks to you, I can't get the words "Boyd Coddington" off my mind! Dick D

Michael, You may appreciate this Coddington story...
A friend of mine had him build a '47 Ford convertible a number of years ago, maybe twenty.
The car was beautiful to the eye. Small custom touches that really added to the overall appeal. Boyd's typical 454 Chevy under the hood, etc.
The car then was just shy of $250k.
My buddy gets the car and drives it. He drives all his cars, regardless of value.
Car vibrates like mad around 35MPH. My buddy calls me, not Boyd and asks what the issue is.
I'd advised him that it sounded as it the driveshaft inclination was too severe.
So, he calls Boyd. Boyd tells him (I think I can nearly quote) "no one drives my cars; they are for show".

Really? A quarter million dollar car that is not road worthy? REALLY?
Of course, anyone that knew anything about Boyd, knew his cars, while pretty, were pretty much crap.
The car got shipped back to Boyd and yep, driveshaft was too severe.

DD, I think there have been some decent looking fiberglass cars made, but
the Menotti '37 three window has NO appeal at all. The body proportions
were just poorly designed.
If Bill buys that red/black one for anywhere close to the price they are
asking, then all I can say is, I feel sorry for him.

Lanny, look at the other thread he has going; he's already bought it. Even after all of the information he received here.:(

Buy what you like, I guess.

Agreed; sometimes it isn't knowledge that is sought, but rather affirmation that you've done the "right" thing.

A magnet doesn't stick very well to fiberglass!! See his other post.

Hey Mike that is a great Boyd story! One of the first indoor car shows I went to as a teen, there was a T bucket with a HUGE engine, BBC, Polished 2-4bbl and scoop, Stainless headers, ridiculous looking thing with huge rear tires, skinny ones in front with no brakes and while looking at the way the engine was mounted, I noticed there was no crankshaft or pulley, just a hole in the timing cover!
A quarter of a mil for something that can barely move under it's own power, pure Boyd!
