36 steering column measurment

Need to know how long the original 36 Ford outer steering column is, as measured between the top of the column (just under the steering wheel) to the cast lock assembly (column drop) at the clamping seam? I am about to bolt the column drop in place on the outter column and need to get the proper height. My 35 measures just under 5 inches, need to confirm the 36 is the same.

Terry, my '36 measures 6 1/4 inches. Ed

Loosen up the clamp at the bottom of the column and slide the tube up till you get about 1/8" clearance between column and wheel. Check to see that lock works okay, then re-tighten the clamp. Measurement is not all that critical.
