36 Steering Box

Does anyone know if my steering box and shaft can be removed from the botton of the car if I drive the car up on car ramps or does it have to be on a car lift to get the right clearance for box and shaft to be removed? Thanks

I don't have a 36 so the answer is suspect. The problem is the steering wheel and the horn rod. The steering wheel would have to come off for it to go down but the horn rod must come out to get the steering wheel off. OK if you have a roadster but often not enough room in a closed car. I would plan on taking it out from in the car.

dansford,
I've removed the steering box from my '36 slantback several years ago. I did it in my garage with jack stands etc. I remember the only part that was kind of tight was getting the light switch rod high enough into the cabin to clear the steering column. It actually hit the head liner, but it did come out. If I remember correctly, getting the box off the column from under the car was not an issue. Hope this helps.
