36 Spare tire cover

Can anyone tell me if a 1936 spare tire cover will fit a 1935 wire wheel?
I have a 35 5 Window driver and I like the way the 36 cover looks.
Thank you,
Joe

I don't believe the '36 Ford tire covers, there are two styles, will fit the '35 wire wheel..
A visual comparison of the '35-36 wheels appears to suggest that the hub portion of the wire wheel is wide, extending almost to the other limits of the wheel, where-as the hub portion of the '36-39 type of wheel is quite flat.

If I were you I would certainly give it a try. I am using a '36 spare

tire cover on a 1940 wheel. As long qas they are all 16 inch, it

should fit. --- Ken

IHave a 36 and feel the locking cap which holds the outercover in place would not work on the 35 because of the depth and circumference ofthe hub ..Only my 5 cents worth ..

A '40-48 16" wheel will fit the '36 Ford tire covers with no problems. The body mount has to be the '35 style of mount.. I had this type of application on my '36 coupe for many years using the original "August" style of cover..
As I stated in my earlier posting to this thread, and as shown in mrtexas' pix, the wire wheel hub will interfere with the cover, not allowing same to properly seat onto the tire.
A second problem is that there is nothing for the tire cover to lock onto.. The '36 tire mounts have a protrusion that is welded to the body mount which makes contact with the tire cover..
I don't believe I have ever seen a wire wheel spare tire, either side or rear mount with a sold tire cover. they are always a tire ring only or a canvas cover..

This afternoon I re-thought the subject of putting a '36 Ford tire cover on a '35 Ford wire wheel.. The majority of the contributors all seem to agree that the application wont work.
However, there is a way that the application, with a few modifications will work.. The whole process is very simple.. Use a '40-48 16" wheel with a 600 x 16 tire. use the '35 tire mount, the '40-48 has a lug bolt pattern that I believe is the same as the '35, 5 on 5.5..
On the back side of the '36 cover there is a saucer shaped metal disk that may interfere with the small center of the '40-48 hub, This disk nests into the large '36-39 wheel center.. Either trim some of the metal edge off or just remove the disk.
The whole installation is very simple.. Of course the '40-48 wheel wont match the 35 wires, we're talking about a spare tire not a major modification to the '35 Ford.. :D

Thank you everyone! As usual, I'm blown away by the knowledge here.
I think I will stick with the 35 cover.
Thanks again,
Joe
