Just wondering if a 36 ford roadster frame is different from a coupe frame? Didnt know if they had any extra supports for strength. Also, does anyone know if there was a vin number range that the roadsters where made? Thanks

The frames are identical and vin or serial number was based on when the engine was manufactured and had nothing to do with model/body style.

From the dim dark past of my memory I recall all open top cars had a chassis made from 0.11 G as opposed to regular chassis' of 0.10 G. This was to account for lack of strength in the body due to the lack of a roof. I believe Pickup Truck chassis were also made of 0.11G

Don, there was a small difference, that being a lateral support member just forward of the transmission mount, running from the K member to the outer rail, this being installed only on open cars and station wagons. All other frame features identical for all passenger cars.

Alan and Fe26,

Not on '35-'36 roadster and phaeton chassis frames. I believe that you are thinking of the differences that began in the '37 model year.

My comments regarding no frame differences was addressed to the specific question..."Just wondering if a 36 ford roadster frame is different from a coupe frame?" There are no differences between a 36 roadster frame and a 36 coupe frame. Cabriolets and convertible sedans have an extra pair of "bolt on" braces that were added to a standard frame when a cabriolet or convertible sedan body was used. There is also no thickness differences in frames used on open and closed cars as well as pickups and panel deliveries. See page 69 of The 1935-36 Ford Book for further information about this brace as well as the partial production lighter frame used on all body styles starting in May/June of 1936.
