36 PU radiator darin

I would like to install a radiator drain in my 36V8 PU. I have the petcock, but there is no fitting on the tank. The bottom of the Rad has what looks like a steel plate on the bottom (how the rad is supported on the frame), and it has several holes through it.

It it just a matter of brazing on a brass nut (with NPT thread) to the bottom of the tank? Or should I not touch it?

Rick,

On the assumption that the tank is made of brass and is thick enough, I can see no harm in drilling a hole in the bottom of the tank and soldering in a suitably threaded fitting. Be careful how you solder as you don't want to loosen the solder that's holding the cooling fins. If you get stuck, PM me and I'll tell you how I did a similar job

Mine has two drains in the bottom, is there any trace for them or is it new to your '36?

Is there a possibility that the radiator in your pickup was a truck radiator? I did not think the trucks had the petcocks. Is there a number on the top tank of the radiator?

Assuming you still have a Flathead engine in your pu, you could remove the small pipe plugs on either side of the block, at lower front, near the water pumps and install petcocks there as they were on the '35 passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. In the past, I have had to apply heat to the area of the block surrounding those plugs to get them to screw out.

My 35 did not have any when but I recored it I asked them to put one in the bottom tank, I wish I had of asked them to do two. It makes it so much easier when it comes to doing a flush , you don't want to attempt to take the lower radiator hoses off .pfft what a job!
