36 pick-up instrument lights?

I don't have a clue what if any instrument lights my pickup should have. On the spedo it looks like there are two "C" shaped straps that could hold bulb sockets. Is this where several bulbs are mounted? Is there a cover that goes over the back of the instruments or shields? Can anyone provide me with a photo or two of what it should look like behind the dash?

Thanks

Here's a photo I copied earlier.

OK great. so are the bulbs bare or is there some kind of shield too keep the inside of the cab from lighting up?

I think 36 is similar to 39 pickup. Here is a photo of the back - It's showing the "C" shaped receptacles you mention. The base of the bulb just slips in and grounds thru the clips.

Mine had no shield on the bulbs - they have to shine into both speedo and instruments.

Note the windows on both speedo and instruments. narrow slots that have the 1930's version of "plastic" to stop glare in the speedo and instruments.

This material had shriveled and dried and fallen out in the several I have. I'm still thinking about what to replace it with.

I'm sure someone will correct me if things are not similar on the 36.

yes bare light bulbs. If you want to replace the plastic lens on the instrument windows try Target they sell thin opaque plastic office and school note book inserts. The inserts can fit into a three ring binder and have a flap with Velcro closure. They are accordion type. The plastic on the inserts is easy to cut, very flexible and you can punch holes for mounting. The inserts come in many colors including a pale green that matches the original windows.

Thanks Terry - I couldn't even tell what color they were....

Hope we helped RickMcK. I forgot to say (exactly) there are no lights on the instrument cluster - ones on speedo light both speedo and instruments

On my 39 peeekup I have bare bulbs. There is some back lighting under the dash. I don't drive it at much at night so it doesn't bother me. They were green originally?

Hey guy's. Thanks a bunch. Your answers were what I thought as I found some light sockets that fit they "C" shaped holders in my "junk box". No I know all I need is the bulbs and the little switch. :)

You can get the plastic lens material to go on the instruments from most hobby shops.

Yeah, I know...the thread is a year old...but it was helpful when I did the search function.

New, related question: 36 1/2 ton pickup, where does the instrument mount? My truck didn't have one when I got it.

Related topic. My (green) plastic on some of my '35 gauges is cracked. I made this up at work and it looks very close to the original.
