I recently bought a very nice 36 motor with complete running gear (trans, and rear end). The transmission plate says 18-2264769, When was that made?? Also how do I tell if it is an LB block. This motor is nice enough for a show car. The rear end included, spring, shocks, wheels, Ford Script whitewalls and the right hubcaps. Thanks in advance. Dan

Dan, according to the Early Ford V/8 Club 1935-36 book, that number shows to be manufactured in September 1935. That number is on the transmission, so anyone's guess on the block. My '36 has the matching transmission/frame numbers but the block is a '37. Some pics might help identify the block. Ed

If the block was with the trans from new, then I doubt it would be an LB. Idon't think they were available until later in model year.

My LB bloclks have this hole in the front.Lawrie

Lawrie, It's the Canadian blocks that only have that feature. Those blocks cast in US didn't. Brian

One way to tell if it's an LB block would require removing the oil pan and measuring distance between centers on the main bearing studs. On an LB the studs on the mains will measure ~ 3-1/4" center to center. Poured babbitt bearing blocks will measure ~ 3" at the same location. I have never seen the hole that Lawrie mentioned on an LB block here in the USA, but then there are many things I have never seen yet in my life time ;). I have always read or been told that a flat top coil like the one on your engine is considered to be late '36 production. You should probably check the gears in that rear, they may be 3.78 or 3.54 ratio. JM
