36 gas tank sending unit tesying

Got it all cleaned up and popped off the cap. Looks good inside but would like to run a ck on it to see if it is working correct.the point makes when the arn is raised and lowered. I think it must work on a pulse of some of kind. Don p
 
Remove the entire sending unit,flat and all.Be certain it is grounded and the lead from the sending unit to the guage is good.Turn the key on,move the float up and down.See if there is movement of the guage.Calibrate it by trial and error from there.
 
The car is all apart including the tank,opened it up like a watermelon to clean and seal it . Will weld it back in a couple daysand test it.thought there might be a easy way to check sending unit.
