Hi guys, can anyone tell me what needs to be done in order to remove then reinstall the oil pan from the engine of my 36 ford, while the engine is in the car?

it was a process, one thing is that you need to jack up the motor up as far as you can get it. you will need to take off the generator and remove the fuel pump stand. i did it on my 36 pickup, it was a dirty greasy job.took me about 3.5 hr to get it off, and about 1.5 back on

Removal of the pan can be done in the car but after doing mine three times last summer I found it was easier to just pull the motor. The advise you have recieved is all good and in addition you will need to lower the wishbones more than you think possible for clearance to get the pan out. I put wooden blocks under the trans to push the bones down far enough. Of course the exhaust needs to be removed as well as the starter. It's all doable but depending on what you need to do it's kinda hard to clean the rails well enough to reseal the gasket, I ended up pulling the motor, for a diffenrt reason (a leak behing the flywheel), but in the end it was better for me to pull the motor and be able to see and get every thing very clean to install the pan and gasket properly. It can be done in the car.

Thanks to all. The info that you supplied was really helpful. Idid find the previous posts that you mentioned John. I should have searched the arcives first, befor bothering you guys. Brenden and Jon C also provided good info. I was able to remove the pan, repair the pin hole leak that was in it, and then reinstall it, using the info that you guys supplied. Thanks again,
