36 5 window Coupe Door Trim

Can anyone tell me what the trim piece is made of for the inside of the door, around the window on my 36 coupe? Not the Garnish molding itself but the piece that fills the gap from the top of the door panel, up and around the garnish molding and back down to the top of the door panel. Is this filler piece made of metal and then upolstered or is it cut from wood? I have looked for these and can't find them. I guess I'll have to make them. Any thoughts, direction or comments from anyone?

Thanks,
Ron Alexander

The trim piece was made from really thin (maybe 24 gage) steel and was "stamped" with pointy prongs to adhere to the fabric. It attached to the door with spring clips.

As far as I know there are no repops and finding usable ones is virtually impossible.

What I did on my 36 coupe was made plastic ones, glued the fabric to the plastic and then glued the plastic to the door. That worked fine and even a judge can't tell the difference if your a points car.

Try AIN Plastics or Acme Plastics for some 1.5 or 2 sillymeter polycarbonate. Rough sand the surfaces so the glue has something to stick to.

I've made them from the heavy material used for door panels, etc. I then use a gasket punch to put holes in the paneling to match the holes in the upper door for the original clips. I use the flat plastic clips used on modern cars to mount the panels to the upper door. These clips come in various sizes so you can find them to fit into the holes in the door. Use a very thin(1/8 or so) foam to cover the panel before putting on the upholstery. This will hide the heads of the clips. Once covered you just snap them on the door.
