'35 with juice brakes.

I have a '35 converted to juice brakes before I bought it.
After looking at what I need to do to change worn king pins I see ive got '46-'48 backing plates all the way around.Drivers side has a '46-'48 square back spindle and the passenger side has a '37-'41 round back spindle.
Besides the some times shimmy it handles well going down the road.
Im curious if there was a change in the spindles camber '37-'41 vs '42-'48?

My concern is the different spindles drivers side vs passengers side. Anyone have specs. on this?

RobR'........I don't usually "shoot from the hip" to questions asked here-abouts, but I'm pretty damned sure the rounds and squares (1937 thru 1948) had the same camber angles forged-in. DD

I believe they are the same also. Odd that someone would do that, but you never know what happened over the years.

Nice looking '35 Rob!

Thanks guys!
Also to purchase a quality king pin kit?
I see in macs they advertise a Royal kit with needle bearings.I've never change these before and looking for experiaced advise. Are they that much better than the bushed version?

The problem with your set up is the stock one (king pin) had the bearing under the head that carried the clevis arm .Now you must get the longer 37 ? type that can do the same, but the washer that carries the load at the top on a repoped is a riveted deal and will need welding ,Ted

I've used the Royal K/pins........you don't need 'em. For stock kingpins, use kingpin that matches year of spindle. You will have a spare set on the shelf when you're done. DD

Lengths of king pins, king pin diameter, bushing lengths.
What are the differences between 37-41 and 42-48?

I have royal king pins on my '34 and am beginning to suspect that they are the cause of the shimmy I have. I plan on going back to a stock set up.

No there not on there. I've only just learned of these rings.I had a local fab shop make the up for me and I'll pick them up and install them tomorrow.

I made a post couple years ago asking for opinions on those Royal King Pins and they got some poor press, in other words, don't use them. Use conventional king pins and bushings, and have a machine shop power hone the bushings for the correct fit with the king pins. If I can find that post, I will repost the link here later.

Here are some pictures that Rob sent to me showing the L&R front backing plates, spindles, and king pins on his car now...

The square back spindles have the same pin diameter but are 1/2" longer overall than the round ones.. You would need to buy two king pin sets to renew your king pins. I have an orphan pass side square spindle if interested. It is perfect.

Thanks for posting the pics JM 35 Sedan.
JSeery, the bearings under the axle is correct right?
It steers very easy.
