35 Window Channels and Door Seals

Guys,

Getting ready to purchase window channels and door seals for my 35 5 window. What do you guys think of Drakes window channels and door seals? As for window channels, I see Drake offers two styles for my car. One with felt strips on the moldings and doors and one with rubber bumpers on moldings and doors. Which one is correct for a late model 35?

On the door seals, Drake has a "all-around" door seal. Are they worth the extra $ and has anyone used them? Is the all-around like the Ford original seals or were they basically separate pieces; bottom, top and hinge side?

My car was stripped on all the window channels and seals before I got it, so any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks much,

Peder

I think the felt is correct for the late 35. The old rubber i took out for door seal did not appear to be "all around" they were separate pieces. I know I put the door seal on backwards the first time. Live and learn. Good luck

As far as your window glass channels using rubber bumpers vs. felt strips; keep in mind these cars have been around a while and many have had doors replaced, etc., and I've even seen cars having both styles of doors, in which going with the felt strips is the wise choice in my opinion. Look inside the edges of your lower window opening on both the inner garnish and outer, just inside the slot for the window. The rubber bumper style will have about 1" long x 3/16" wide holes with rounded ends (horizontally placed) for the rubber bumpers on each side. The style using felt strips will have the original staple holes, several per side, 2 per fastener and each pair just as you'd expect a heavy-duty staple to produce.

1935-36 Ford 5/W doors did have separate seals at bottom, top and hinge side. Drake's all-around door seals are not the original design, they simply incorporate the uppers, hinge and also include a back edge seal which was originally absent (originally wind-lace cord, part of the interior upholstery). The lower door seals in the "all-arounds" use the original separate lower door seals which are also included in the kits, but not molded-in. Drake's new "all-around door seals" for 1941-48 are the only styles having the lower seals molded-in making a one-piece seal for each door.

best wishes and good luck.

I just did my 35 5wind. over the week end. the car I bought off the second owner,it was 99% orig. I bought the door tracks from carpenter, they were made by vintique, they are felt inside. my car is an early 35, door handle up front, window crank in the middle. there are two rubber bumpers, on the door skin, top by window track, they take beveled bumpers, comes in the kit. with the felt they work nice. That was as close to original. my windows go back and then down, felt works nice.
