'35 rumble seat question

Hey guys-

Looking at some pictures of a '35 rumble seat coupe. I think the car is a standard. Painted dash (no woodgrain) and only one horn. There is no step on top of the fender for access to the rumble seat, only one step at bumper height. Is this correct?

Thanks, Tom

No should be one also at the top of rear fender. Ford used same pads as used on clutch + brake pedals, pyrimad style [not the bulls eye type] ken ct.

Tom-

If the '35 you are looking at is truly a standard, with a factory rumble, it would not have a right-hand tail light. There would be a step mount on the fender (where the tail light would normally be) and a step pad at the top of fender. If what you are looking at is original it would be an extremely rare model.

As for determining if a '35 is a standard or a deluxe, I (and others) could give you a sizable list of differences.

Hope this helps.

Tom

tom i have a rumble seat car which is factory original and it has two tail lights - the car is a roadster which is RHD and was canadian export

Mark, were two tail lights a legal requirement over here back then? That could be why it has a pair. Like the extra separate handbrake mechanism on mechanical brakes for UK '32 - '34 (and others?).

Weemark-

I can't speak for Canadian export models but it is my understanding that in the U.S. market roadsters only came in a deluxe version. Thus, two tail lights.

Tom

Thanks everyone for the help. Dash is maroon, car has the RH tail light. The only step is round metal ( no pad) mounted to bumper support. Tom

Tom and Weemark,
My Australian Roadster has two tail lights approx 12" long and the best of my knowledge all Aussie Roadsters were Deluxe. My two steps for the rumble seat start about half way between the filler cap and the top of the mudguard. The mount for the first step is a cast alloy thing about 2" high and about 2" dia at the base, which is on an angle to keep the rubber pad parallel to the ground. Mine didn't have anything at all on the bumper mounts. And of course our steps are on the LH side of the car.
Gary.

I have some literature regarding the Std step from Don Rogers and some photos

interesting....but i guess if the gas fill is where the step would usually be....long first step, tho....lol....Mike

rhd same as lhd only you step over the gas filler. I have alloy step pads that have similar pyramid pattern, should be rubber.

Sounds like someone converted the trunk into a rumble seat and never finished adding the step pads.
