35 PU on a 39 frame

OK, thanks to Fordbarn I now know I have a 1935 Ford PU cab. Next question, will it bolt to a 1939 frame? Bolt holes for body mounts the same etc. Any reply is appreciated.

I understand for street rod purposes, frames are the same 35-39. You may have to drill a couple of holes here and there, but you can make it work.

according to wesscots book 35-41 pickup frames are all the same also 35-40 cars minus the running board holes for the pickup hope this helps

Not so!! For one thing the front crossmembers are different and the radiator mounts are not the same.

I just checked my '40 frame and '36 pickup frame and one of the holes for the inner fenders isn't there. Hunerdhorse, I'd be glad to check specific items if you wish, but I wouldn't hesitate to use the '39 frame! JMO

35 and 39 frames have the same frame rail dimensions, but that is about it if you are trying to build a 35 pickup that is stock. It depends on how original you want the 35 to be. The holes for mounting the front fender braces will be absent. The holes for mounting the runningboards will be in the wrong location. The 35 had the battery under the cab and the 39 frame has the master cylinder, absent on the 35, below the cab. The radiator mounts are not the same. The center crossmember is not the same. The shocks do not mount in the same way. The gas tank mounts may/may not be the same. I do not know for sure, but I suspect the cab mounting blocks might also require some additional holes to mount the cab. The rear bumper mounts would have to be added to the 39 frame if you decide to use a 35 bumper on the rear since they do not mount the same way. The holes in the front x member in front of the center crossmember are not the same. The 35 bed is a different length than the 39 bed and probably does not mount using the same holes.

Thanks for all the replies! I am building an old school flathead hot rod so if the basic foundation is there I will work with the differences. I plan to run a 47 59AB, 39 front brakes, 39 trans , and rear end, so as long as I can mount the body and radiator with some mods I am good. I love bone stock cars also but this is just a fun project to drive.

RE the radiator mounts. 1939 Standard and Pickup radiator mount should work with a 1935 pickup (the mount pad is a little bigger and has an extra hole for 1936-39std), the 1939 Deluxe/1940 radiator mount is way different.
